How to keep paying members when your Discord server dies
Free communities lose members when a server goes down. Paid communities lose customers, plus the refunds, chargebacks and support tickets that follow. Here's what to set up while things are calm.
Short answer
Gate every paid channel behind RestoreCord verification so each subscriber authorizes your bot, keep snapshots of your paid channels and roles, and rehearse a member pull once. If the server is lost, verified subscribers can be pulled into a new one.
Your member list is the real asset
Your Discord server is rented space. It can be deleted by a compromised admin, wiped in a nuke or taken down, and when that happens Discord doesn't hand you a list of who was inside. For a paid community that list is the business: it's who you owe access to. Without a way to bring those people back in bulk, you're left posting a new invite on social media and hoping subscribers see it before they ask for a refund.
Collect authorization before you need it
A bot can only add someone to a server if that person authorized it in advance. RestoreCord verification asks each member to approve your bot on Discord's own consent screen, including the permission to join servers on their behalf. That one click is what later lets you pull them into a new or restored server.
The trick for paid communities is placement. Put verification at the front door: paid channels should be visible only to the verified role. Then everyone who can see your premium content is, by definition, someone you can bring back.
Back up the paid tier itself
Members are half the picture. Snapshots save the structure they paid for, so you aren't rebuilding premium categories from memory while customers wait:
| Plan | Price | Snapshots kept | Messages per channel |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | €0 | 1 | 50 |
| Premium | €5 / month | 5 | 200 |
| Business | €10 / month | 30, schedulable | 500 |
| Enterprise | €20 / month | 50, schedulable | 2,000 |
On Business and Enterprise, automated backups run on a schedule. Pin a snapshot you know is good so scheduled runs never rotate it out.
What recovery day looks like
- Create a new server and invite your RestoreCord bot.
- Restore your latest snapshot to rebuild channels, roles and messages.
- Start a member pull from your source server's verified member database, assigning a role on join.
- Run Restore Roles so each subscriber gets their tier back.
- Reconnect your subscription bot so billing-managed roles re-sync.
RestoreCord adds no cooldown between pulls on any plan, including Free. Large pulls still move at the pace Discord's rate limits allow, so start early and let it run. Our guide to restoring paid roles covers step four in detail.
Extras worth turning on
- Access Email (Business and above) asks for members' email on the consent screen, giving you a way to reach subscribers if Discord access is gone. Mention it in your privacy notice.
- Redirect After Verify (Business and above) sends members to a URL of your choice once they verify, such as your member portal or first lesson.
- Sub-users (Premium and above) let moderators help without seeing IPs and emails. Keep View Member Details and Manage Backups for trusted staff.
Only members who verified beforehand and haven't revoked access can be pulled, and Discord can still refuse individual adds. Make verification part of onboarding so the gap stays small.
Rehearse once
Restore a snapshot into a test server and pull a few staff accounts into it. Knowing the process works, and how long it takes for your community, is worth a lot when paying members are waiting. Keep the outage playbook next to your notes, and if leaked invites are a problem, add buyer-only verification. Then go back to RestoreCord VIP and check nothing else is missing.
